She now says she is very excited to see me, and to go out.
So, should I still assume this is just as ';friends,'; or what? Should I buy her flowers, and if so - what kind?

See if she brings up the other beau in conversation when you two have your get together. Don't come out and ask her; allow her to bring it up and explain if she feels a need to do so.
Just continue with your meeting, as friends, and don't press or assume there is more to this yet. Feel free to pick up a nice bouquet of flowers (mixed with one rose) from the local florist on the way in, with a nice card. Nothing too serious, still keep things light.
Keep the entire evening light hearted and friendly. Observe her, read her body language, tone of voice, notice how she is dressed - to fully see what message she is conveying to you. Whatever you do, don't spoil the evening by assuming something and causing her to withdrawl from your company.
If something is there, you will both know it soon enough.

you don't need to spring for flowers yet. You are spending alot of money just for a room and the trip. She may feel like she is supposed to be obligatged for more than she is ready for at first. Wait until after the date and if it goes will you could send her some flowers and tell her how much you enjoyed seeing her. Good luck!
You're just doing this as friends until she says otherwise. If you're having a good time while you're there, tell her that you are. And then ask if she's still seeing the other guy because you'd really like to date her. You'll have a better idea of where you stand with her once you actually spend some time with her, but for now, don't go into it expecting more than a fun time with a friend.
Good luck! I hope she realises that you're something special to be going to so much effort for her!
I think it might be more than friends.Yes buy her some beautiful red roses. That would help out
