My fiance and I have been together for 4 years. We will be getting our graduate degrees on the East and West Coast, separately. His program is 2 years, after which he will be joining me in LA while I finish my program, which is 5-6 years.
Though we've been through a lot, we've never been apart for more than 3 months. As we are engaged, we are obviously committed to making this work. We already have plans to visit each other every 6 weeks. Do you have any other advice? Thanks.Do you have any essential advice for a 2-year long distance relationship?
Make sure you fix a time every day to communicate exclusively with each other and regard it as a date. This will be partly online and partly by phone, depending on financial resources. Invest in extra gadgets if you don't have them, such as webcams so you can see each other as well as just writing. Online chat is much much better than email.
Make the effort to tell each other about all the trivia - people who annoy you, somethig nice you ate, what your family has told you on the phone - because sharing all these tiny ups and downs are what make you feel less distanced from each other.
Your active social life will decline as you will spend more time attached to the phone or computer. You will probably be put under pressure by friends to ';get out and enjoy yourself more'; but you have to resist this, because if you are out all the time your distant partner will feel forgotten.
Be prepared to drop everything and take a plane over if either of you has a problem even if it seems fairly trivial, like catching flu or something. You need to be there helping each other to reinforce the fact that you are your partner's main support in life. If you learn to cope all alone without your partner, your relationship is in grave danger.
I think that when you are long distance, sharing the bad bits is almost more important than sharing the good bits.
I think your 6-weekly visiting is good and about the max you can go. With my husband we usually only held out for 3 weeks before we desperately needed to see each other, but with commitments of studying and money limitations I think you are being realistic.
Make sure these visits are as wonderful as possible. Organise as many new and exciting activities as you can. This way you will have plenty of shared experiences to reminisce about and look forward to together in the in-between times.
There is a temptation to shut yourselves up together and stay in bed for ages but if you do this you have little to talk about afterwards. Action-packed shared times are the way to sustain the interest across the distance.
Good luck.Do you have any essential advice for a 2-year long distance relationship?
Hey,
I recommend getting skype (if you dont already) its really great to be able to talk to each other for free through your computers, and invest in a webcam so you can see each other. Also if you're game for it, i suggest skype sex as a good way to kind of keep you connected sexually.
all i can say is... i hope that two years aren't a very long time for you guys. i would say what you're doing right now is working coz you guys are still together. just continue to be open with each other.:)
you two seem sweet, i hope everything works out!
Wow, that's pretty amazing. Just continue to trust and love each other.
And keep the communication open.

Is she cheating on me? I need advice...(long distance relationship)?
We have been together for about a year...and we see each other every other weekend. I love her more then i have anyone else and she says she loves me...but lately things sem wierd...she goes out a lot with her friends, which is cool, but there is one guy that i dont trust. She says shes known him forever, but the disturbing part is she told me he admitted to being in love with her...and the odd time they go places together like for drives to take pics and that, just him and her...which bugs me...but most of the time its a group thing. What bugs me the most is when she does go out she insists that i do NOT call or text her, to wait till I hear from her...and even the odd time i text her just to say ';i love you'; she either doesnt reply at all, or responds back with a snappy ';ok i told you to wait to hear from me!....'; which bothers me...also when i spend tme with any of my girl ';friends';. she gets sulky and says ';i bet you slept with them.'; My friends think im being played..anyone agree? Is she cheating on me? I need advice...(long distance relationship)?
well there could be some indication there
but botton line we dont know
and if u ask her she will never admit it to you
so next time she is out with him
call her, dont be afraid to call her she s ur girl
u can call her anytime
so call her
and if she doesnt pick up
confront her about it
if she catches an attitude
u stop her on her tracks and tell her
listen, i was thinking about u and i decided to call cuz i wanted to hear ur beautiful voice
now if she is still angry after that
then u need to talk to her in person
and get this issue resolve and tell her how u feel insideIs she cheating on me? I need advice...(long distance relationship)?
ABSOLUTELY!
Damn straight you're being played....time to find yourself an honest woman who appreciates the nice 'i love you' texts and preferably someone that you can see more often than every other weekend....how do you know this chick isn't married?
im going to have to agree with the friends
If she doesn't have the patience to tell you what's going on between she and her friend, then you should probably move on.There are soooooooooo many nice girls out there.
The perks of being in an ';LDR'; is that you have the freedom to go do things without having to report to your significant other. However, if she's taking that to an extreme, it sounds like she wants to have her cake and eat it too. There is obviously a lack of trust on your relationship, and do you want to be with someone who doesn't trust you, or that you don't trust? No. You may love her, but you can move on. You deserve better.
Sorry to say but i do so agree! She is playing you, be honest with her and if she doesn't tell you exactly then you'll know! Talk to her, shame and you seem like a nice guy! Good luck!
Dude, you need to pull your pants on, it sounds like she is making all the rules and calling all the shots. Don't call or don't text until you hear from me? I tell you what, you need to send her a text message next time that says, ';This is your Ex-boyfriend and I am just texting you while you are out screwing your other boyfriend to tell you to drop dead. Don't text me or call me until You hear from me, which will be close to NEVER!'; Man your friends are right, you are being played bigger than life. Send her a pic of you with your new girlfriend... DUMP Her!
Some girls like to be universal. Their sentiments, love and care is shared to all. Due to their such kind of character, we get depressed some time. Just tell her that ';Love all but give heart to one, Give cheek to all but lips to one';.
Here is my advice tell the girl that you want to trust her but her relationship with this guy is making it hard for you to do so. If she doesnt want to give up her life stlye its more important than staying with you.
You dont sound very happy , move on man she is playing you
i think the guy is trying to get on your nerves and he wants to get rid of you so he could have your girlfriend.
If you had to bet a million bucks on whether she's cheating or not how would you bet???
You see... you know the answer and you just wanted to hear it from someone else.
What do you think? Make up your own mind about your relationship.
Guy, if she really loves you she would always long to be with you not the other guy. Yes she is cheating on you, one would not be in love with you and at the sametime entertain other guys and restrict you from calling or texting when she goes out on the group thing. Wake up man, she is not yours, look for someone who will have all the time for you. By being sulky when you are with one of your girlfriends, she is try to protect herself from her own actions, you are being played, try ignoring her slowly and see how she will react.
I tend to agree with your friends.... However, the question is do you want a long time possible life time relationship with some one that treats you like that.... I sure wouldn't!!!
Long distance relationships are very difficult, especially without clear boundaries, and most importantly trust.
If she has admitted to you that this friend of hers has feelings for her, then she is open and honest with you...give her the benefit of the doubt, if she wanted to be with him then she would have broken it off with you and started a relationship with him.
As far as her not wanting you to call her while she is out, this might be because she probably doesn't want to seem as though she has a really ';jealous'; boyfriend...but this is something you might want to ask her upfront...tell her to mention exactly why she doesn't want you to call/write.
Honestly, first of all, you need to think about where exactly this relationship is going/your plans with her...it is obvious that you are jealous, and that she is as well...once you are clear about what you need and what you want, also think about what you can change to make her more comfortable and secure in the relationship...then talk to her about all of this.
If the two of you are serious about being together, then you need to set up certain boundaries...and they should be realistic expectations, each of the two of you need to understand, and respect what the other needs.
Also, you need to trust her when she says or does something, unless you have solid proof that she is cheating...without being honest and open with each other it is not going to last. All of these doubts and worries that you are having, are totally out of fear of losing her, and you need to let her know that.
Okay she is trying to make up her mind that whether she wants to be with you or not. You really love her and i would suggest that you should not call her up or message her. Be Cool and you'll see the difference. She is taking you for granted now which happnes in a relationship when one shows lot of care and love for other person. So BE COOL and keep yourself busy with other work. Don't pick up her calls for the first time she calling and let her wait and feel that she is missing something important in her life. But do call her at the time she is available.
Wake up she is playing you like a fiddle
Sorry to break it to you... but yhea she's cheating... and her snide remarks to you regarding your ';girl friends';... it's her on the defense. When someone is guilty they assume that everyone else is doing what they're doing and make you feel guilty instead. I would confront both him and her about how you feel and take it from there.
Agree. If you have to question your trust for her, its the first sign that the relationship is headed for disaster... I recomend to step back, look at whats important to you... Long distance relationships are hard, and she isn't trying as hard as you are... Sometimes we have to be selfsih with our hearts and feelings. I can't tell you to break up with her... But I will say that it doesn't look good. And that if you let her go, and let yourself mend the wound, the sooner you'll meet the loving woman you are meant to have... (now this woman could be someone completely different or it could be this girl you love now, but just down the road when she grows up a bit, and when she really knows what she wants....) Life is full of turns that we never see coming!
sorry but it does kinda sound like you are being played
i think so mate. or maybe theres some thing else wrong with her? he only way to know is to ask her, thats the only way you;re going to get a straight answer. you have to trust each other in a relationship and obviously she doesnt trust you. if you;re gut says tht theres something dodgy going on, there probably is... good luck
You're getting Burned Pal!#$%^
trust your instincts. your relationship stinks.
U are definitely being played .. and you already know this... the question is .. are you gonna 'man up' ..?
kick her into touch... or shut up and take it like a man ..
Dr Bad
wake up you are being played
yup sounds like it to me!
Love is a many splendorous thing, you can give to her until you cannot give any more taking into consideration that you in the way you do it she may take your liberty for granted,as a gentleman ,you must know when to yank the leash especially with the competition,if it makes you uneasy do what protects you and your standing with her.No playing games, she has to show a better form of respect for you or she will run you over and you will feel taken for a ride ,stand your ground.good luck

Advice for dealing with long distance relationships?
So we have been together for a year and two months, we have been apart for eight months. We are 240 miles away because we both went to beach schools, uc san diego and uc santa barbara. It is so hard. The first few months were horrible! we only see each other one weekend a month not really a weekend just a day and a half cuz i have work. being away from him hurts. we fight over the dumbest things. does anyone have any advice to make things easier for the both of us? summer is only a few months away and we will be back at home, only 20 mintues apart from each other.lately there have been some really close calls to breaking up because we both can get emontial about being apart and it drives us aprt. please any advice will help me out..thank youAdvice for dealing with long distance relationships?
The tiffs and arguments that you two are having is nothing more than the frustration that the two of you are feeling from being apart for so long. That is normal. Instead of getting angry, start to talk about how you feel. Even if it's the silly stuff like, ';I miss seeing what you wear each day.'; Own up to your feelings and discuss them. Contact one another each day or close to each day. Communication is absolutely the key in the situation. Make sure the conversations are ways to make sure the other person knows really what is going on in your life and vice versa. Tell him about the hard test you had and the weird guy in your class. Tell him about the idiot that pulled out in front of you in traffic. Tell him about the bad service at the fast food restaurant. Tell him about the fight you had with your mom. Whatever it is -- TELL HIM. Get him to do the same with you. Tell the big stuff and the little stuff. Paint a picture of your day so that he is able to feel like he at least half-way experienced it vicariously through you. If you are missing him more than usual, then you need to tell him rather than holding it inside and letting it explode.
Spend some time planning the next time you two will see one another. Get a calendar devoted to counting down to when you see him next. He may want to do the same thing. Plan the things you will do together so you both have something to look forward. Making a plan together gives you both something to do and something to smile about as it comes closer and closer.Advice for dealing with long distance relationships?
Skype and MSN Live are your best bet. It makes it a little better.
Ohh ... the drama ... the yearning ...
In a word, long distance sucks, but at least you're in the same state within driving distance ! It could be a lot worse, like he could be in Australia and you could be in Florida, ok?
The key to keeping it together is one word: Contact. Contact contact contact. I can't say it enough! What you have to do is have as much contact as you can: Texts, emails, phone calls, pictures, cozy talks late at night ... stuff like that is what sustains a long distance relationship.
A little perspective goes a long way. The next time you feel like a convo is heading for an argument, just ask him, ';Honey, are we fighting?'; Turn it around to something positive, and don't let it escalate. Whatever you do, do NOT break up while you're apart. Do NOT make any major decisions while you are apart. Wait until you can see each other and talk about it.
The fact that you both get so emotional should tell you how close you are, and that it's worth it to stay together. I live halfway between you two in LA, and I drive for a living, so I can say this: SD to SB ... it ain't that far! I know that traffic can suck, but isn't there a way that you could meet somewhere in LA more often? Each of you drive halfway and you split the difference for where you would stay? As close as you are, it just seems criminal to only see each other once a month.
Anyway, keep in contact as much as you can, and make plans as often as you can.
Best of luck !!

Long Distance Relationship tips/advice?
My boyfriend and I are in a long distance realtionship, I'm in California and he's in Arizona. We're going on four months and we have at least 10 more months of this. Please don't tell me that these relationships dont last, because I know that if we want it to, it will because he is worth it. Any tips/advice on how to maintain a strong, healthy relationship?Long Distance Relationship tips/advice?
My boyfriend and I dont live in different states, but we do live in different cities, and I promise you...if you want it to work it will! One thing that the both of us really enjoy is sending little surprise packages to each other...you can fill it with all of his favorite things, and stick little notes inside. Once when my boyfriend was sick, I made him a package filled with stuff that I thought would make him feel better...(his favorite candy, cough drops, tissues, etc.) and he said it made him feel better right away. If this is too costly, sometimes a little note or a letter in the mail is just as fun. Even though we can call and talk whenever, its still a nice surprise. :)
Also, Skype is a great way to talk to your boyfriend and actually get to see him at the same time. AND its FREE! :PLong Distance Relationship tips/advice?
Oh good, my kind of relationship! I will tell you right now, its not easy. They do last though, but its on a much more personal level and you need to be willing to accept things, but also give sacrifices for it all to work.
If your boyfriend is trippin about how this guy you work with or go to school with and he's jealous of that guy, you need to make an effort not to talk much about that coworker, even if he's a good friend, and even if your boyfriend has nothing to worry about because you love him with all your heart. The relationship will only work if you have the willpower and put the effort and heart into it that it needs.
My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost 11 months now, long distance, and we've had a lot of crap to go through, but I'm sure it'll be easier for you, but it's hard at time. You just have to work at it.
Good luck!!! :]
OMG GIRL!!! I feel ya!!! haha.
I have a long distance relationship and J absolutely hate it when people say it wont work!!! I'm at like 4 and a half months and going strong! haha
Anyways, enough about me! lol
What id say is talk A LOT, text whenever, send letters, send pictures... whatever!!! I do all I can to talk to my boyfriend and those are some of the things. Mostly we just talk on the phone. Its always nice to hear the voice of the one you love! :)
Well good luck with everything, and dont let anyone tell you it wont work, because like you said, if you want it to, then it will.
BTW congrats on almost 4 months!!!
You have to communicate a lot, phone, emails, etc. If it's possible visit each other once a month or something. You both just have to provide enough reassurance to each other so you can stay together.
Email and speak alot on the phone. Can you visit eachother? If so, that's a bonus. 10 months is a long time, but if you really love eachother you guys can do this.
Good luck :-)
If you don't want me to tell you that these relationships do not last, then I won't.
Ive had a overseas relationship and it worked out just fine. Just make sure you call him everyday or just stay in contact with him as much as possible and yall should get web cams so yall can see each others faces
I was in a long distance relationship, then I moved to be closer to them :D
lots of communication .
sometimes theese things work but most times they dont so dont just be so in to him an have no social life you don't kno what he is doing just think smart about the situation

I need advice, long distance relationship...?
I started a relationship with this guy, he moved to california. I really do love him, and he tells me he really does love me...
however, due to circumstances too weird to explain we cant see each other as often as we would like.. last time i saw him was about a month ago..
We talk everyday, and we really want to make it work, but we get so frustrated because we cant see each other, i can hear it in his voice...
please, tell me what to do... i really love him how do i calm myself and calm him and be a little bit less desperate and to keep our love alive...I need advice, long distance relationship...?
Life is about choices. First find out from each other what you want most out of life, for him and for you. Career or relationship.
If both of you want to be together so much, then both of you have to sit down and talk over what to take and what to give up, to resolve the present conflicting situation. It is a tough choice, career may be important to him and equally to you. If neither side can give way then both must trust and love each other enough to concentrate on what is at hand and try to agree and work out on a more long term plan to be together, keeping constant and frequent contact is important, though frustrating but at least you keep each other going, and try to be positive, this only buys both of you some time. Again a lot also depends on what kind of characters is he and you. Are you the patient type?
So think carefully, and choose what you believe is best. And try to ask him to do the same. Love or something else.
Good luck to both of you.I need advice, long distance relationship...?
its so hard. i know from experience. visit as often as u can, and talk even more...even if its just text or online. send him a card. have flowers delivered to him. write him a cheesy poem and send it to him. mine ended because the guy i was dating was in the army and went to iraq. he ended it. good luck! just be careful!!!
i'm sorry to break it to you but
long distance relationships don't work!!!!
i've been through too many of them..and just ended up getting my heart broken...
it CAN work...if you guys fully trust each other and don't mind seeing each other a lot...
but if you love someone..thats usually not the case.
good luck sweetie
is the distance only temporary? if youre both in love and want to make it work...someone will have to make the move. some people are worth it. you just have to decide if hes worth it or you simply just want a boyfriend.

I need advice(long distance relationship) help please?
We've been together a little over 4 years now. And i feel like we're falling apart. I'm 17 hes 18 and we live about 70 miles away from eachother.
This week his cousin from France started living with him and his family. we havent seen eachother in over 3 months cause we've just been packed with things to do. We talk every night and even sleep on the phone every night. And lately he calls me really late.. I AM SO SURE he is not cheating on me. We're not like that at all and we love eachother a lot and plan to get married in about 2-3 years. We were supposed to see eachother this weekend but he cant see me and then I decided well maybe the following weekend but hes going camping with his dad. But i feel like im going insane... Im the kind of person who needs someone to talk to I dont know why but i just am and i need someone to talk to....
but anyways what should i do about this??
How can I cope with this. I feel depressed and if your gonna be mean when you answer this then dont bother i really dont wanna hear it right now im just looking for help on what do do.... thanks :/I need advice(long distance relationship) help please?
It's unfortunate that he had to cancel coming to visit this weekend and that he is busy next weekend. You should let him know in the future how important those weekends are to you (maybe doing so now will just make him feel bad and get defensive, but the next time you plan a weekend try to say things like ';I'm so excited to see this weekend'; ';it really means a lot to me that you're coming to visit';).
I know it seems silly, but pay attention to your menstrual cycle as I've seen that women tend to get more needy around that time. You can even let him know that you're going through this ';needy time.'; If you are aware of your changing emotions, it makes it easier to not freak out until you're sure it isn't related to menstrual cycles or stress at school.
The best remedy, in my opinion, to getting over the feeling of being distant is to take effort to complete little acts of kindness. Find him something on the internet and ship it to his address as a small gift of caring. Send cards or letters to make it seem like he's closer. Having a physical item (not an e-mail) makes it seem like the person is closer.
It's also important to make sure that the weekends he cannot come to see you that you are keeping yourself busy so that you don't dwell on his absence. However, I would also make sure to let him know that you would enjoy sharing your experiences on that weekend with him so that he doesn't get the feeling that you don't need him or want him.
I hope that helps!

I need advice...(long-distance relationship)?
i need help. i am currently in love with a guy who lives thousands of miles away from me, but the thing is, i don't even know if we are going out. it's so crazy because i can't go a day without thinking of him. i keep telling myself that i'm already taken by an amazing guy, but i'm not even sure if we are together or not. i can't have crushes on other guys because i love HIM too much. i haven't seen him since the summer of 2007, but i'm seeing him this summer and i need advice on what to say to him because i am so confused about our relationship. he probably doesn't even love me, and i've been worrying about him all the time without even thinking about the consequences. and the thing is, whenever we're together...it's, i don't know. i think we connect on so many levels. but it's difficult because i'm so quiet and shy around him, and he complains about that. he says stuff like, ';why don't you ever talk? you can never strike a conversation up with me'; and it's so frustrating to him, you know. so, yeah. i need advice on how to open up a little bit more once i see him again, and how i could inform him about my confused feelings with our relationship.I need advice...(long-distance relationship)?
He is your friend and the relationship isn't going any further,so find someone locally and forget him.
